Most cleaning products come with plastic in one way or another: The bottle, the cap, the pump, or the pouch you buy for refilling purpose. Even “Refills” use thick plastic pouches because they have to carry liquid, and the liquid is mostly water. The thin plastic firms are often chosen to cut down plastic, but they are harder to recycle since they blow away easily and rarely get collected.
In this guide, you will learn a simpler way to cut plastic for your everyday cleaning: From how concentrate works, ways to make your own liquid at home, and how to use it in everyday household activities.
What is Grain to Liquid?
Grain to liquid products arrive mostly in the form of small dissolvable grain without any liquid content (water) in them. The liquid part is added at home, which they turn into a ready to use liquid. As we ship only the concentrate, the pack is completely light and small. And the best part is: a small 125g of dishwash pouch will make around 1.8 - 2 litres of liquid while diluting and using them
We have skipped the refilling process completely because:
- Either you have to return the bottle to us for refill
- You have to travel from one place to another for refilling
- And sometimes the bottle you send to the store should sit in our refilling system.
Here, because of the grain to liquid none of these are needed. The refill happens at the comfort of your home like kitchen or open veranda on your schedule in whatever container you already have.
It also means less to carry and less to store. A small pouch of the grain replaces several bottles of plastic which you will buy, hold, and throw away after a certain period of time.
Why Grains Instead of Powder?
You can find a list of products in the form of powder to liquid concept; But the major drawback is it will disperse into the air, and even we get to inhale a certain amount while transferring the product.
Even at times if your powder is completely natural and plant-based, inhaling some kind of fine dust is not okay, especially when we even have toddlers or kids at home. Our Grains at Arani Eco sink into water and dissolve there rather than floating like powder format. Kids enjoy this process completely when the grain texture gets transferred to liquid.
The Pouch: Made to go Back to the Soil
Our pouches which carry grains are made of corn starch based film, which gets compost in a span of 60 - 90 days.
Also even when the pouch is fully sealed, there is a case where tiny micropores in the packaging act as an opening for the moisture to let inside the grains. This might make the grain a little clumpy, but it will not impact the experience; So, either if you want to keep them very long or if you are staying in high humid conditions, ensure to store the pouches in an air-tight container .
How to Refill at Home, Step By Step Guide
-
You can pick any utensil like a steel bottle, water bottle, or even an old dispenser. Rinse well and air dry.
-
Add water first, and then mix the grains into the water. In this way, all the grains will be well hydrated as they flow into the water. This can be done by adults or toddler under elder guidance.
-
Here the two step dilution happens:
-
For 125g of dishwash pouch, you should add around 500Ml of water., and you will get around 600 ML thick concentrate. Add hot water to the grains, and you can see the dissolving happens there.
-
Go with hot water at about 50 to 60 degrees but not boiling to speed the process. Note - If the temperature is below 18degree celsius, the grains will not dissolve.
-
Take one teaspoon of concentrate and add 2 spoons of water for washing your dishes; This obviously gives you 1.8L of the liquid!
-
Stir the grain vigorously, so the movement helps in dilution; Ensure to give some time for dissolving the grains completely. Let them sit overnight.
-
You will see the liquid changed from grain, and then transfer to the bottle for using accordingly.
Practical Tips for Different Seasons
When the temperature gets colder, the mixture turns into icecream, which is because of the coconut oil base. You can scoop them, dilute and then use based on your everyday needs.

If you are living in cold regions like Kashmir and other parts of North India with long cold spells, this format may not suit you. Check with us before ordering, and plan to use hot water if you do.
Is it Worth the Switch?
If you are comfortable and okay to spend a day, rather than using heavy chemical-based liquid or paying for the liquid, using this 125g pouch would go for a long run and will also save your pennies.
We value and respect people who take time to order from Arani, find the bottle, and enjoy the dissolving process, irrespective of the quick-commerce options. Thank you to the people who have consistently held hands with us for helping mother nature for over 5 years, and also for the people who are making some genuine efforts.
